Canyon Coffee's May Artist of the Month: It's Me!

Canyon Coffee's May Artist of the Month: It's Me!

Late last week (On May 1, to be precise), I drove up into the mountains to visit a beloved coffee shop - Canyon Coffee in Coal Creek Canyon, just outside of Golden.

I had a car full of artwork - original pieces, prints, stickers, cards - to install as the featured May Artist of the Month. Aside from my Ruhlman installation at Wellesley in 2009 (insert photos below, link to all photos), I have not put up a solo show… ever.

This is less of a “show” as much as it is a “showcase,” as it doesn’t necessarily have an intentional theme. Most of these works were created either as smaller collections or as individual pieces. However, seeing them all together on one table brought to light some common themes in my work, (even across multiple years). Shannon, small business champion extraordinaire, helped me organize the pieces to hang them on the walls.

With some chill music playing, rain coming down outside, and a baker working on the next day’s prep, I installed my work.

I’m working on trying to schedule a “meet the artist” event or a workshop, but May has proven to be a difficult month to schedule in - between Mother’s Day, my work schedule, and Memorial Day, we have just a few days that could work for a structured event. I do, however, plan to head up several times in May to get some delicious coffee and baked goods and to see the work up during the daylight while the coffee shop is open.

I hope you’ll head up sometime this month too, if you’re local. All of the work is for sale, and I made sure to include a variety of pieces at different price points - from $4 stickers to $150+ originals. If you go up, please take pics and tag us on social media, or send us the photos! It brings me so much joy to see folks enjoying and engaging with our work.
